Read these Letter Z Books with your preschool student to learn and review the shape and sound of Z. Letter Z picture books are a fun way to get your child engaged and excited about learning a new letter.

As you begin each book, point out the letter Z on the cover and highlight the Z sound by repeating that main word several times with emphasis.

Picture Books about the Zig Zag

Read one or more of these books about the zigzag before you do the Lowercase Letter Z Craft and form the letter out of zigzags.

Zoomer by Ned Young. All the things that Zoomer “must” do before he gets ready for school will end in a laugh-out-loud surprise moment in this brilliant book.

Zoom Zoom Zoom! I’m off to the Moon! by Dan Yaccarino. The little boy and his rocket ship blast into space and enjoy a fantastic adventure, living every little boy’s dream. Rhyming text and bright, colorful illustrations.

Picture Books about the Zoo

The View at the Zoo by Kathleen Long Bostrom. A funny twist on the classic Zoo picture book, this one is from the animal’s point of view, but you don’t necessarily know that until the end of the book. I love this one.

Animal Strike at the Zoo by Karma Wilson. All the animals at the zoo decide to call a strike. What will happen? How will anyone convince them to “return to work”?

We’re Going to the Zoo by Tom Paxton. A classic song is brought to life with hysterically fun verses and cheerful illustrations. Sing as you read or just enjoy the rhyming patterns.

Zoo by Gail Gibbons. Full of information and detail, this one will satisfy the knowledge lover and animal-loving preschooler alike. Stick to the first sentence only if the text is too long on each page.

If Anything Ever Goes Wrong at the Zoo by Mary Jean Hendrick. Bring them all to my house! So says the little girl every time she goes to the zoo. But. Surprise! One day there is flooding at the zoo, and the zookeepers taker her up on it. How will Mom react?
