Get Your Child Talking

I know as moms, sometimes we just want our child to stop talking! However, communication is an incredibly important skill we can’t afford to ignore. We all know adults who are fantastic communicators and those who can’t seem to string together three coherent sentences.

That ability to communicate starts developing when our children are young through observation and practice. So two of the best things you can do for your child is have amazing conversations around him and have amazing conversations with him. Talk to your people!

Here are five questions you can ask your child while you are at the crafting area together.

  • What are some numbers that starts with the F sound? (If necessary count with your child until you reach a number word that starts with f.)
  • What are some other words that start with the F sound?
  • Which frog is your favorite? What sound is at the beginning of favorite?
  • Name five of your favorite things.
  • Name four friends.

These questions will get your child thinking about the f sound and words that begin with f. This also gives your child an excellent chance to practice communication skills and verbal expression. In order to answer these questions, she has to organize her thoughts, answer with ordered lists, and come up with specific information.
