Doesn’t our ninja friend look amazing? I like to call him learning ninja and invite him to play some learning games with us. You might find it a little weird to carry a construction paper ninja all over your home playing learning games, but there’s a good chance your three-year-old will be really into it. Use any of these ideas to introduce the lowercase letter n craft.

Learning Ninja ideas

Kids will get such a kick out of learning the sound and shape of n with a ninja friend! Once you’ve completed the craft, have the ‘learning ninja’ come along with you for the following activities. You can use the craft or if you happen to have a toy ninja use that instead. Your student can pretend to be a learning ninja too!

Learning ninja can help you find all of the things that begin with the letter n around your house. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Look for noses, noisemakers, numbers, nines, neckties, necklaces, newspapers, and napkins. You may need to prompt your preschooler with a few of these ideas before they catch on and come up with n words on their own.

Learning ninja can stand guard while your ninja student practices writing the letter n.

The ninja can even join the snuggle time while you read letter n picture books about ninjas together.

Review the Sound of N

As you make the craft and play various games with your newfound friend the learning ninja, make sure to review the sound of n. Emphasize the sound of n as you say the names of different objects in your home or read the titles of picture books. Have your student say the sound of n a few times as they make the ninja letter.

State Your Name

Does your child’s name begin with N? That would make this activity double the fun! Name begins with n, so spend a little bit of time talking about your child’s name, each family member’s name, and the names of various pets or friends or neighbors. the concept of a name is an interesting thing to explore with a preschool child. Does your preschooler know anyone in real life whose name begins with N? Nancy, Nina, Nadia? If so this would be a great time to call, facetime, or mail something to that friend or relative.

Practice Writing Names

Kids love to write their own names at this age! While you are learning the letter n is a fun time to start working on this important skill with your student. Don’t expect too much in the beginning, preschoolers will write letters backward, out of order, and maybe even upside down when they first start learning to write their name. In preschool, it’s almost always about the process, not perfection.

  • green construction paper
  • red construction paper
  • white construction paper
  • black construction paper
  • construction paper for the background (color of choice)
  • tape
  • glue
  • scissors
  • alternative – white paper and crayons

Instructions for the Lowercase Letter N Craft

  1. Trace the cut pieces as shown with a nice thick marker and then have your child follow the instructions below.
  2. Cut out a lowercase n from the green paper.
  3. Next, cut a large rectangle the width of your n and 2 large teardrops from the red paper.
  4. Then cut out 2 large circles from the white paper and 2 small circles from the black paper for eyes.
  5. Next, glue down the lowercase n in the middle of the paper.
  6. Then glue down the red rectangle about ⅓ of the way down your lowercase n.
  7. Next, glue down the 2 teardrops on one side of the rectangle to make the eye mask ties.
  8. Then glue down the 2 white circles in the middle of the eye mask.
  9. Finally, glue down the 2 black circles in the middle of the white eye circles.
