Uppercase Letter R Craft for Preschool

Sharing is caring!

Do you have specific memories from the time when you learned your letters? I remember making these little sticker books for each letter. I still have those sticker books today! When your child is learning the letter R, make this uppercase letter R craft to help them memorize the sound and shape of the letter. The letter R will be transformed into a rooster in this project.

It’s always fun to introduce the craft time with a short activity related to the animal featured in your letter craft. Since today’s uppercase letter R craft is all about the rooster, try one of these activities right before you make the craft. You can even go ahead and have your student(s) come to the craft table to get ready for crafting.

Animal Sounds to Introduce the Craft

Introduce the craft time by making animal sounds together. When you make the rooster sound, which is traditionally sounded Cock-a-doodle-doo, instead begin each part of the rooster call with an R sound. It will sound surprisingly similar to a rooster! You can listen to roosters crowing here. You can go ahead and enjoy making all the different farm animal sounds together for fun too!

Reading Rooster Picture Books

Pick one or two books from our list of rooster (letter r) picture books found here and read them together. Reading to children is an excellent way to share rich vocabulary, sentence structure, and the power of a story. It’s also a great way to introduce a new letter to children. Read the title page and emphasize the keyword in the title that begins with R. Pronounce it slowly, and draw attention to the beginning sound. Point to the letter on the page as you read the word.
