Yeti Extension Activities

Use these extension activities to take your study of the letter Y to new levels. Extension activities help kids build connections between different areas of learning. This method helps all of the information from the different subjects stick better because it’s all connected.

Read Books about Yetis.

Our huge list of Letter Y Picture Books has a wonderful selection of Yeti books! Be sure to check it out and pick a few to borrow from the library.

Make Up A Yeti Story

After you’ve read a few of the books, have your child make up his own yeti story! Making up stories helps kids practice communication skills, build vocabulary, and hone the art of storytelling. Get your child started by giving him a story starter line or asking her a leading question. Don’t expect too much from your four year-old-though. Two or three sentences in response to these would be excellent. Here are two examples.

  • Once upon a time, I decided to find my very own yeti . . .
  • What would happen if a yeti walked into your bedroom?

Play a Yeti Game with the Uppercase Letter Y Craft

Take your finished YETI and play a yeti game with him. I love the idea of playing hide and seek with Mr. Yeti. Your child can come up with a name for the yeti too! Once you’ve picked a name, take turns hiding the yeti and finding it again. You can find places all over the house to hide him, or take him outside!

Try A Yeti Yoga Game

This fun Yeti Yoga game on video gets kids up and moving with ten different yoga poses. But watch out! If you see a Yeti, RUN!

Construction Paper Cut Pieces for the craft.
  1. Draw the cut pieces as shown in the image above using a thick marker. Then have your child follow the remaining directions, doing as much of the work on their own as possible.
  2. Cut out a large uppercase Y from the white paper.
  3. Next, cut out 2 horns for your yeti from the brown paper.
  4. Then cut out 2 large feet from your blue paper.
  5. Next, make little cuts all around your Y to create the yeti’s fur.
  6. Then glue down the uppercase Y in the middle of your backing paper, trying to keep the fur free.
  7. Next, glue down the 2 horns, one on each side of your yeti.
  8. Then glue down your 2 feet at the bottom of your Y.
  9. Next, glue down the googly eyes in the middle of your yeti.
  10. Finally use your black marker/crayon/pencil to draw your yeti’s mouth.
